A hidden place in Camden – Shingle Creek Waterfalls

Shingle Creek bigger falls.

The Dakota (Sioux) called Shingle Creek “Omnina Wakan Wakpadan,” or Spirit Refuge Creek. Shingle Creek’s earliest European name was Bohannon Creek after John C. Bohannon, who settled in the area in 1852, where the creek flowed. In 1853 Rufus Farnham built the first sawmill on its banks to produce wooden shingles and the creek began to be called “Shingler’s Creek.”

The waterfall may be seen by parking in the lot on Webber Parkway near Lyndale Ave N. Walk down the hill to a path and head eastward for about five minutes. You will come upon a series of small waterfalls and then the larger waterfall. There are so many hidden treasures in our neighborhood.
