Folwell Park keeps getting great, with a little achy this summer

After last year’s delay, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) began construction of planned improvements at Folwell Park in May.

You’ve noticed some prep work began the week of April 21 — construction started in May and will continue through late fall. Some final work will take place in spring 2026.

The improvements include: a very cool new all-wheel park with bowl features and street skating area; community gathering area; stormwater management areas; native plantings; new and reconstructed paths; and added lighting.

During construction, please keep out of fenced areas for your own and others’ safety. Several paths will be closed during construction. Restrooms are available at Folwell Recreation Center during building hours.  And note the wading pool and adjacent restroom will not be open during the 2025 swim season – head over to any neighborhood pool near you – find one at minneapolisparks.org.

The current Folwell Park project builds on a range of improvements added to the park since 2017, including: The new playground south of recreation center; renovated tennis courts; new path connecting the courts and playground; new lighting added for west athletic field; updates and replacements to the recreation center kitchens, craft rooms, restrooms, roof; and accessibility improvements for the parking lot, sidewalk leading to the recreation center, and center entry.
