When I moved to the Twin Cities 40 years ago, I was advised that there was a saying: “If you don’t like the Minnesota weather, wait a minute.” At the time of this writing, residents in Minneapolis are experiencing the variable weather patterns again, with days of warm temperatures and drought, shifting to days of chilly temps and lots of rain. You could say it’s a typically variable spring in the neighborhoods.
I am a big fan of perennial plants – those plants that come up year after year – since they start growing regardless of my schedule. My favorites are hostas and lilies. However, I could do without the dandelions – those yellow flowers in my lawn end up being big leafy plants that kill my grass.
Given a number of unusual priorities for my household this spring, my husband and I have not done as much gardening as we have in past years. You can understand then my joy when I saw our neighbors putting great energy into new raised-bed kits and a flower tower. And I can see a portion of their work every morning – just outside my kitchen window!
I told my neighbor how much I liked the work she has done, and that I would like to share a picture in the Camden News. She appreciated the compliments and gave me the okay to share these pictures with our readers.
If you have a neighbor putting a smile on your face with their planting or decorating, let them know. Your complements just might put a smile on their face too.
