A bit of Black baseball history

Enjoy compelling historic photos and stories from Minnesota Black Baseball that have been passed through generations during a free event at Folwell Park on Tuesday, July 1, 7:15-8:15 p.m.

Minnesota has a rich history of talented African American baseball players, yet few of them are known to fans today because of strict segregation policies that were in place for decades. Black ballplayers were sent to the semi-pro leagues and much of their participation lost to history.

Frank White, author of They Played for the Love of the Game will cover that history by sharing stories and photos passed through generations. The stories tell of denial, hardship and segregation, yet highlight those who persevered and were united by their love of the sport.

This event is free and open to all. Bring anyone interested in history and baseball! Everyone in attendance will receive a free Twins cap.
