As of October 1, the Minnesota Department of Health had confirmed 10 new cases of measles in the Twin Cities metro area. Here are some key things to know to keep you, your family and your community safe.
Measles is very contagious. It’s an airborne virus. It spreads by droplets in the air through breathing, coughing or sneezing. Measles can cause severe disease, complications and even death. Symptoms to look for are a high fever, cough, runny nose and/or rash all over the body.
If you have been exposed to the measles, or think you may be sick with the disease, take the following steps: Stay home to stop the spread; call your healthcare provider before going to a clinic to prevent the spread of the disease.
The immunization to protect against measles—the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine—is very effective and safe. Protect yourself and our community by getting vaccinated.
