The official opening of the Read With Me MN free library took place on October 11 at 4405 Morgan Ave N. This new community resource free library will be a place where children and adults will be able to pick up free books or donate a book if they like.
The group also held a Drop Everything And Read (D.E.A.R.) event on October 18 at Café Margarette, 300 13th Ave NE. They have partnered with the men of Epsilon Rho and XI chapters of Omega Psi Phi fraternity for these monthly events held on the third Saturday of each month.
Their efforts have been a way to create space for children to see Black men reading aloud and modeling the joy of literacy. The D.E.A.R. story hours began last spring and continued into a summer of story time, community and representation. The events were so successful, the organizations decided to continue the practice during the school year. Info: mldoyleauthor.com.
