The Rotary Club of North Minneapolis had a very successful first time Northside Vibrations event, a musical festival at North Commons Park on September 27. The event showcased the musical talent of North Minneapolis groups and individuals, and was a fundraiser for the outreach that we do to support the North Minneapolis community.
Through our different projects we raise money to improve lives for people who live in North Minneapolis. We have supported many projects including:
· Gotcha Glasses, providing eye exams and glasses to Northside kids.
· 3000 Acts of Kindness, an annual event to provide a variety of material and human resources to unhoused families and individuals.
· The Link, providing housing and resources to homeless youth.
· The Peace Garden in Old Highland. A second Peace Garden in the Folwell Park area is in the planning stages.
Further afield, we also support:
· Project Safety Nets, an education, health and economic development non-profit organization for communities in Senegal. The organization’s founder and CEO, Ann Dillard, was the founder of the Rotary Club of North Minneapolis.
If you are interested in volunteering, 3000 Acts of Kindness is a program that provides clothing, haircuts, counseling, resources for housing, and jobs for unhoused or struggling people in our community. This event happens on December 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Minneapolis Convention Center. There is a need for good outerwear and all kinds of services, as well as a need for volunteers to help set up and serve. Often well over 3000 people in need are served. Our Rotary motto is Inspired To Action Through Service.
