If you have been by the North Market lately and you stopped to get a coffee at Get Down Coffee you may have been surprised to find it closed. Get Down Coffee closed its doors on October 4 and after an extensive remodel will reopen as a restaurant. A placard on the front door states “Over four years, this corner of Camden Town became more than a café or barbershop. It was Grandma’s house for the city.
Get Down Coffee closed its doors for a complete remodel and owner Houston White says will open as the Blue in Green Bistro scheduled for the spring of 2026. Renovations will begin soon. The barber shop will be closing to make room for a 30-seat dining area with a wine and cocktail bar. White described the bistro as a place with “approachable opulence that will serve meals inspired by a fusion of French and Southern cuisine.” White is consulting with Alex Roberts, a James Beard Award-winning chef on menu development. The front door area will still have a coffee bar and area for “grab and go” items.
Some of the staff were surprised by the abrupt closing of Get Down Coffee. Changes to the construction timeline for the remodel sped up the closing but will also, hopefully, allow the restaurant to open sooner.
If you are curious about the renovations and would like to know more there are large drawings on the front windows showing the future floor plans and rendering of the new interior spaces. White also will make coffee under the Get Down Coffee name available at local Target stores.
