The cold has sent us inside and the dark is covering more hours than the light is. Our Annual Winter Tree Lighting is our reason to come back outside and connect before the long winter begins. Join the community on Sunday, December 7 at 3:30 p.m. at the corner of 35th and Humboldt Ave N to decorate edible ornaments for birds, squirrels and other critters. We cover our fruit trees with snacks for the animals who have to rare food sources when the winter comes. After the trees are decorated, we light up the trees to stay lit for the next month standing in contrast to the overwhelming dark. This event is symbolic to what we need, and speaks to how important gathering together is, and why we need light in these dark days.
There will be hot cocoa, treats and a bonfire to snuggle up to in order to stay warm. We will also have a take home craft project provided by the Stories of Connection with the Loppet! If you are able, bring a treat to share, but it’s not necessary. An important piece of being in community is supporting one another. We will also collect pet food and items to donate to the Northside Pet Resource Center! If you have the means, please consider bringing a can or two of pet food, or gently used pet supplies! We will take them to the Resource Center the next day!
This event is outside, so please dress warmly. Got questions or curiosities? Contact the Garden Steward Danielle at danielle.tietjen@gmail.com.
