This free outdoor event connects North Minneapolis Black and Hispanic community with health, wellness, financial and housing resources to support well-being
Live Your Healthy Lyfe, the free health and wellness-themed block party that debuted in 2022, is bringing health, wellness, financial and housing resources to the heart of North Minneapolis community on Saturday, August 16. The outdoor event will take place along the West Broadway corridor between Logan and Penn Avenues from noon to 6 p.m. The full-day event, designed by the Northside community for the Northside community and beyond, focuses on providing residents with additional access to and awareness of health resources to fight stigma around health-related concerns due to systemic racism.
The past three events attracted more than 6,000 attendees and featured community conversations, healthcare screenings and vaccinations, mental health consultations, a variety of Black- and Hispanic-owned vendors, food trucks, free children’s activities including face painting and lawn games, music and dance, all to help encourage the community to meet and build trusting relationships with health and wellness experts.
“Each year we have been amazed by the success and growth of the event, and we are continuing the momentum this year by offering critical resources to support the physical and mental health, financial health and housing needs of the community,” said Teto Wilson, organizer. “We’re thankful to our sponsors, vendors, volunteers and attendees for sharing their passion, resources and services including vaccinations, mental health screenings, stop-the-bleed kits and training, book bags with school supplies and more.”
Live Your Healthy Lyfe is sponsored by Wilson’s 501(c)3 nonprofit, Wilson’s Image College Scholarship, which provides scholarships for Black and brown scholars living in North Minneapolis. Additional sponsors include Children’s Minnesota, Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare, North Memorial Health, US Bank, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, MNGI Digestive Health and Wilson’s Image.
Performances include the TKO Drumline and the Hispanic dance company Nuestra Lucha MN, along with music. Food trucks include Logan’s Catfish, The Bougie Waffle, The Thirst Trap and more.
