An update on the Northside Greenway

By Allen Henry, City Staff

The Northside Greenway project is wrapping up its third round of community engagement. The project team is knocking on doors, showing up to community events, and attending neighborhood meetings. In the Fall, the proposed concept layout for the project will be considered for approval by the Minneapolis City Council. The project team will spend 2026 completing detailed design plans, and construction is on track to begin in 2027.

This is a summary of the community engagement so far: The project team engaged community members from Summer of 2024 through Summer 2025, introducing the project, understanding how community members use the corridor, and collecting input on priorities for improvements.

What we did: Thirteen pop-ups; three neighborhood listening sessions; one public open house; one Northside Greenway Community Fun Day; door knocking – 343 homes; and interactive mapping activity – 235 interactions.

What we heard: More traffic calming; better places to walk and bike; more arts and culture, community amenities, and greenspace; traffic flow improvements; and maintaining on-street parking

Design recommendations: Traffic calming; walking and biking improvements; greenspace and placemaking; and traffic flow.
