You’ve officially got a month to figure out who you’re going as for Halloween, and five weeks to decide who you’re voting for in city elections (more on that below). That’s serious stuff. There are easier calls to make, like: Which of these upcoming events at the Capri should you attend? And the answer is: Yes.

The 16th season of Legends @ the Capri continues November 16, with The Tommy Barberella Jazz Ensemble, starring the former frontman for Prince’s New Power Generation. In “Sample This: A Tribute to Joe Sample, George Duke & Ramsey Lewis,” Barberella puts his piano chops on display channeling a few of his musical idols. Showtime is 7 p.m. November 15 and a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday the 16th; tickets $25 per individual pre-sale, $20 for groups of 10 or more, and $30 at the door. Order Legends tickets at thecapri.org or call Jordan Flaherty at 612-643-2040 or 763-260-4415.

Ricky is our First Thursday Films @ the Capri this month. The story depicts a young man’s attempt to rejoin free society after more than a decade of incarceration. Director Rashad Frett won top honors at the Sundance Film Festival for the project, which stars Stephan James (If Beale Street Could Talk) and Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary). Showtime is 7 p.m. on October 2. After the showing, Ricky director Rashad Frett himself will lead a discussion with attendees. Tickets are $5 online (thecapri.org) or at the door.

The Capri Glee! Adult Community Choir is currently in rehearsals for its October 21 fall concert, with J.D. and Fred Steele’s singers set to take the stage at 7 p.m. Tickets are free, registration required at capri.simpletix.com.

The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra’s Northside Series resumes this month with a “genre-bending” performance of works by Dvořák, Jlin, Moore and Navarro. Think small, in terms of the groups of musicians who’ll be playing at a given time, and think big in terms of the emotional reaction you’ll have listening. Showtime is 7-8:05 p.m. Friday, October 24; tickets are free for Northsiders (reservations are required at thespco.org –

enter your zip code as the promo code) and children; reserved seating tickets $16-$36

for non-Northside adults. More info at thespco.org.

Minneapolis mayoral candidates will meet in a discussion facilitated by The African American Leadership Forum at the Capri on October 15. Event organizers describe its purpose as “a space of direction-setting,” rather than a debate, with a special focus on issues affecting Black residents. The forum will run from 5-8:30 p.m. on October 15; tickets are free, registration encouraged at thecapri.org.

On October 19, director Caitlin Lowans and Ten Thousand Things will stage Shakespeare’s Two Things, a comedy of mistaken identities, lovers, suitors, outlaws and staged “with a feminist heart.” The play features a talented lineup and music by Ryan Lee. Showtime is 2-4 p.m. Tickets are $40 or pay-as-you-can beginning at $15, available through thecapri.org.

Youth in grades 5 – 8 are invited to attend Camp Capri Third Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday October 4, and again October 18, where talented teaching artists guide middle school scholars through the wonderful world of the arts, sparking all sorts of creative interests along the way. Camp Capri S3 is free, with lunch served. Registration required at thecapri.org.

On October 23, acclaimed playwright and musician Rain Perry’s solo show “This Is Water” comes to the Capri, fresh from its successful debut at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. The performance blends music, photography, and documentary narrative to weave a story of how Perry’s family history intersects with our national past. Showtime is 7:30 p.m., tickets are available at thecapri.org, $25 or $15 for students.

The Capri is located at 2027 W. Broadway. For details and ticket info visit thecapri.org.
