Homecoming Week at Camden High School

Spirit Week, September 29 through October 4, involves a daily theme wherein students and staff are invited to dress accordingly.  Students may vie for Homecoming King and Homecoming Queen, campaigning with slogans, speeches and hall posters throughout the week. The student body attends a pep fest in the gym at the culmination of the week. They engage in activities and are introduced to students of Fall sports teams.  Next, the candidates for royalty, for queen and king are presented. The winners are then                                             crowned based on student votes. The Homecoming football game begins at 6 p.m. at the Camden High School field where the Patriots will be challenged by the team from Minneapolis Southwest High School. We have not been informed as to whether there will be a parade. The traditional Homecoming Dance for Camden High School students will be held on site on Saturday, October 4 in the evening.

Unveiling the Camden High Mural

The Camden High School mural was unveiled on the north side of the main building on September 5. This expansive work of art by students led by Northside artist Charles Caldwell, is clearly visible by folks driving down 44th Avenue North.  Presentation of the mural was made by  Caldwell as a part of the annual event of First Friday, the first Friday of the school year.  First Friday invites groups and individuals to provide information regarding activities available to students through school and community organizations. Club and activity tables surrounded games, edibles and music.

Pictured in the accompanying photo taken at the unveiling are Principal Liza Anderson Schmid, student artist Daniyah, student artist Alis, CHS art teacher Emily Krikava, consultant and historian Susan Breedlove, lead mural artist Charles Caldwell, and student artist Shophie. Twelve additional student artists will be recognized in next month’s issue of Camden News.
