Minneapolis Park and Rec began construction in mid-October on improvements at Cleveland Park. The project team developed a final concept plan for improvements based on community engagement and other factors.
Improvements in the final plan include: Full and half-size basketball courts; small bankshot-style court; multi-use field improvements; outdoor fitness area; updated picnic area; and lighting path and security improvements.
The project will also establish native planting areas with pollinators and shrubs, and filter stormwater from the site with planted filtration basins capturing stormwater runoff. The landscaping improvements will be installed in spring 2026. A skate park, amphitheater and ninja course are planned for future phases once funding is secured for those elements.
These park improvements are a culmination of months of engagement in summer and fall of 2024 and guided by the long-range park plans (2019).
During construction stay out of fenced construction areas for your safety and that of others.
New mural coming soon: The existing restroom building next to the wading pool will be getting a new mural. With the help of Lucy Laney Craft Elementary School students, guided by Ms. Whitney along with artists from Modern Day Me, the students will work over the coming weeks to gain skills in mural arts to develop a concept for the mural. They will then implement the mural with the professional artist team.
